Annular Eclipse from South London

This morning was an Annular eclipse of the sun. So off we went Telescopes in hand up to the top of streatham common where we set up to record the event from the corner of the car park. After a few technical issues we managed to capature some reasonable images.

The Autumn Equinox Sky Camp - Kelling Heath, Norfolk

Extract from Philips Dark Sky Map for Kelling Heath

This weekend we were in the far flung reaches of north Norfolk. Why? You may ask, The reason is we were escaping the incessant sky-glow of London with the hope of glimpsing the night sky in all it's glory. We arrived on Friday just as the rain stopped for a short while put up the tent and settled down. As it got dark we soon realised why we were there, the full Milky Way stretching across the sky, But as all so often the cloud rolled in. However when I got up in the morning around 5am to answer the call on nature I was able to view Saturn and Mars through the telescopes of those able to get up at such an early time. Saturday was much the same only the rain was even heaver. Then before you know it Sunday arrives and it's time to mop the water from the tent and pack up.

London to Brighton

Today was the 5th annual London to Brighton Smart Run, With over 2,000 Smart Cars of every colour and description leaving Thorpe Park at around 10 o'clock and arriving at Brighton several hours later. Brighton being busier than normal partly due to the fact that most of the sea front was courdoned off by armed police due to a small thing like the Labour Party Conference. Again I will get some pic's up once I have time.

Astronomy - seeing predictions

Well the two links below point to some experimental seeing predictions. NOTE These predictions seem to not be updated frequently...

Astronomy - Seeing prediction for Kelling (Well Close enough)
This link gives and estimate for the seeing conditions at a location just off from Kelling Heath

Astronomy - Seeing prediction for London (More like Watford but close enough)

Looks like the swiss need some lessons in geography!

Herstmonceux Science Centre Astronomy Festival 2005

The Observatory Science Centre, Herstmonceux, East Sussex

Well this is where we were last weekend, The Herstmonceux Science Centre Astronomy Festival 2005. Not only was this the first star party that we had attended it was also the first time that they had held an event at this location, so there were a few things that weren't quite ready. The main thing that was missing was showers, these were not available due to a lack of water pressure at the site which will be fixed for next year, along with the povision of electricity to the camp site. Never the less despite the weather being clouded all weekend, it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend with a good friendly atmosphere.

I will post some photos once I have them...

Update: Photo's are now online Here

Week 5 & Bank Holidays

Week 5 is over and done with. I have now got to the stage were I am going with out patches most of the time unless like yesterday when I went to a party at the house of a soon to be ex work colleague. This weekend is a Bank holiday which means that I actually have a free day, but like most things I am so tired and stressed that its not until this afternoon that I have been able to sit down and do things.

Next week should be interesting as I have a new boss starting at work and nobody knows what is going to happen. I have decided that I will give work to Christmas to improve and if not the I shall think about moving on to some thing else

Bexhill Beach Party

Well, Just got back from a weekends camping down at bexhill. Weather on Friday was absolutely foul but just as we pulled into the campsite the rain stopped and out came the sun. So Saturday it was down the beach for a day in the sun, BBQ for lunch, in the evening we all took a drive up to Beachy Head. With around 20 - 30 Smarts in convoy it was some sight. Then back to the campsite for lots of drinks and frivolity.

Week 4 - Watch out in the jungle

Well here we are 4 weeks with out a cigarete. Namaged to go all day yesterday with out a patch, Still feeling fine.

The has been doing the rounds in all the papers this week. Apparently the is a group of lions in a safari park near liverpool which seem to be paying more than usual attention to Smart Cars.

Telegraph:Is this a Smart way to see the lions?

Day 23 - 26 - Watch Out on the Roads

Ok I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself but I'm going to be away from the keyboard for most of the weekend, as I'll be playing white van girl moving my step daughter from Uni in Stoke down to Brighton. I am managing to cope just with work at the moment, just as I could do with a little less stress we come to critical points in projects... Oh well...

Now where are those two Sun Sparc systems I ordered off e-bay got to, they should be delivered today....

Day 22 - Smarts and Stuff

Well it's day 22 of my on going campaign to take over the world while trying to give up smoking. Went out to the Six Bells in Boreham, Chelmsford, Essex last night to join up with my fellow smart car owners. Thought I had got the wrong night a first as it was a while before anyone else got there. I am actually amazed at how well I coped dealing with being in a pub with others smoking around me.

Day 20 & Day 21 - Three Weeks Down

Well three weeks done, only another 9 weeks to go till I come off the patches. Went without a patch over the weekend with out to many problems apart from feeling a bit nauseas at times. Hopefully if I can keep this up I should have a lot more money spare which I can use to save up for the dream of living in La Palma

Day 16 - Day 19

Well not much to report over the last few days, though I did manage to go through yesterday with out a patch though I did get a little grouchy towards the end of the day.

Well Day 15 is almost over, Went out and brought a load of DVD's and CD's. I shouldn't have brought as much as I did but this is my reward for getting this far.

Just out of interest this is what I got:
  • Black Eyed Peas - Elephunk
  • Evanescence - Anywhere but home
  • Kill Bill Vol1
  • Kill Bill Vol2
  • Hard Boiled
  • Purple Rain
  • Tremors
  • The Crying Game
I know it's an eclectic mix but it's what I like....

Day 14 -- Whooooo Two Weeks

Well here we are two week with out a cigarette. I'm feeling OK, Maybe a little down but I think that's down to the pressure of work rather than the smoking. Tonight will be a tough test as I'm going out to a pub for the first time.. I'll see how it goes.

Day 11,12,13

Well the weekend went OK, not to many cravings now. In fact I didn't put the patch on untill well into the afternoon on Sunday. The say that the first 2 weeks are the worst, well if this is the worst then the next x weeks should be a walk over...

Thursday, July 28, 2005

Day 9 & Day 10

Well things are going along OK with not to many more problems. It's difficult to believe that it has now been a over a week since I had my last cigarette. I must remember to post here a little more often but I'm so busy work wise at the moment.

Tuesday, July 26, 2005

Day 7 & Day 8

Well one week over, Monday was fine not to many problems. Though I did have a fitful night sleep, tossing and turning for most of the night. Then this morning I forgot to put the patch on and by the time I got to work I was feeling VERY Jumpy. So a quick dash to Boots and all was solved....

Things going OK, One week down a not a Single cigarette... whoohooo

Sunday, July 24, 2005

Day 5 & 6

Well the weekend went OK. Just not getting all done that I would have liked, but then again when do you every get anything done on a weekend...

Friday, July 22, 2005

Day 4

Went to the Doctors this morning and now have the patches on perscription which means that I only pay 6 pound something for 2 weeks worth instead of the 15 pounds for a single week. Then just as I was getting in to work spotted several plain clothes police offices jump on a susspected sucide bomer

Day Three

Well day three is going OK so far, last night was a bit of a problem after going to see War of the Worlds, which quite frankly was disappointing. When I got home it was late and the patch was starting to wear off and the urge to smoke was very strong, and having the 5 or 6 in my coat pocket hanging in the hall was not helping ( I know I should have got rid of them before I started to give up ). But these will not be a problem any longer as they are now in the bin.

Day Two

Well day one is over and day two has started, it was a little tough last night before I went to bed, but I made it through without taking anybodies head off. But day two has started off OK. Well apart from the pig awful journey in this morning thanks to London Underground. I just hope that work is not as bad as yesterday or I will be taking heads off today.
